Wish List

While I’ve been to many places, there are many more I wish to go.  Some are feasible for a US-based family in the short term, a few might work for a romantic weekend near where we live while others need to wait until the kids get older (or move on to college!).  I’ve not been to any of these properties – but they come to me through reliable sources – and I hope to move them all off of this page to the trip report pages soon!

North America

Amangiri (Utah)
Aman’s second property in the United States, located in southern Utah, this looks to be the ultimate base for exploring the four-corners area of the US.

South America

Awasi (Chile)
This looks like the way to see the Atacama Desert.

Hotel Monasterio – Cuzco
Cuzco is believed to be the oldest inhabited city in the Americas.  The Hotel Monasterio is in a former monastery, which dates back to 1592 and is some 11,000+ feet above sea level.  The property offers special rooms with piped-in oxygen, to help guests acclimate to the altitude.  The hotel is run by Orient Express presently.

Southeast Asia

Trisara (Thailand)
Many have suggested that this is one of the top resorts on Phuket Island and appears well suited for families or couples.  The general manager is well regarded.

Eastern Asia

Southern Asia/Indian Ocean

Australia/New Zealand/Oceana

Capella’s Lord Howe Island (Off the eastern coast of Australia)
I’ve stayed at their affiliated property on Kangaroo Island (Southern Ocean Lodge) and was truly pleased with every aspect of my stay.  I couldn’t say a negative thing about their KI property and have heard great things about this property as well.

Kauri Cliffs (New Zealand, North Island)
This is another of Julian Robertson’s (of Tiger hedge fund fame) gofl properties in New Zealand.  I’ve golfed at Cape Kidnappers (Napier, NZ) and understand this property to be just as inspiring.  A short flight from Auckland, a visit here will be included the next time I visit New Zealand.

Europe

Mirror Cube Room

The Tree Hotel
Located just south of the Arctic Circle in Swedish Lapland, the Tree Hotel is what the name suggests – a series of rooms, perched in the trees!  This hotel looks to be one of the most unusual in the world.  I’ve contacted management, and they indicated that the rooms have ensuite lavatories.  This will be a pretty memorable trip!

Domaine de Murtoli
Due west from Rome on Corsica, Domaine de Murtoli looks reminiscent of what southern Europe might have been like hundreds of years ago.  A large property (covering almost 5,000 acres), this property has but a small number of stand-alone stone homes along the beach or in a valley above the sea.

Middle East / Gulf

Africa

Amanjena
Located half an hour from Marrakech, this new property looks like western-most Arabia done properly.  The images of the bring about thoughts of what it would be like to be a member of royalty in this part of the world.  As of early 2011, this property is new, so it may be worth letting it ‘season’ a bit.  Definitely worth a trip.
