About the Author
I am a bi-polar traveler of sorts: some of the time, I am an efficient, no-nonsense business traveler (more often than I’d like); other times (not often enough) I am a family traveler with a lovely wife and two young children with more than our fair share of luggage in tow.
While I may be solo or with my family, and regardless of using points or cash, I always highly value traveling comfortably. This website is meant to share those experiences with you.
My travels take me all around the world, to well over 30 countries, and have allowed me to fly on most of the world’s leading carriers (in a premium cabin) and on all the modern aircraft models (as well as some antiques). I’ve had the privilege of staying at some of the world’s best hotels and have eaten at many of the best restaurants. Regrettably, I’ve also ended up in a few places that, while sounding great, aren’t the type of place one would want to visit again. Along the way, I’ve built what many people close to me call an encyclopedic knowledge of how to travel the right way.
A photographic memory also helps my knowledge trickle down to the (important) intricacies of travel: What seats should we get on a given plane as a couple – or if we’re with kids? Which suitcases fit in a 737’s overhead locker, but won’t fit in an MD80’s? (This later point seems unimportant, until you’re trying to squeeze a suitcase in an MD80’s overhead locker that simply won’t fit.) Did you know that “narrow-body” 757s nearly always have wider first class seats than “wide-body” 767s?
I’ve accumulated a warchest of reward points – airlines, hotels and credit cards – and I know how to get the biggest bang (read: maximum value per point for travel largely on my schedule) out of my reward program points. Why redeem points at a penny a point valuation when you can use them for experiences that would cost seven or eight cents per point or more if paying cash? Of course, points are only valuable if you use them for things you value – and would otherwise spend cash to do.
Through all of this, I have become quite skilled at not at how to travel – but how to travel comfortably. Whether you travel with your family or for business (or both!), please allow me to share my cumulative experiences with you!
